Tips for Responsibly Managing Your Grease Traps and Interceptors

Maintaining your grease traps and interceptors helps keep your business operating, while protecting our waterways. The following, four tips will help keep you in compliance with regulations, and protect and extend the life of your asset:

1. Hire a professional. Hiring a qualified professional, like Liquid Environmental Solutions, is always the best course of action when it comes to grease trap/interceptor maintenance. They provide exemplary levels of service and expertise, and will help keep you compliant with state and federal laws - all so you can focus on your customers and your business.

2. Have your trap/interceptor cleaned regularly, and on an ongoing basis. The idea of only having to clean a grease trap/interceptor once or twice year is incorrect, and, depending on the laws in your area, one which could lead to downtime, penatilies and fines. In most jurisdictions, laws require food service establishments to have their grease traps/interceptors properly maintained every 90 days, and, in some cases, more frequently still.

3. Have your lines jetted twice a year. Line jetting is a very effective method of pipe cleaning, and is one of the most crucial parts of preventive grease trap/interceptor maintenance. A hose with powerful jets is inserted into the (external) plumbing and water is forced out, in a circular motion, at high pressure. This is one of the most effective ways to completely remove debris from pipe walls.

4. Make sure your grease trap/interceptor is secure. Grease trap/interceptor lids should be constructed of a sturdy material and secured by a locking mechanism - protecting you, your people and the communities you serve.
